How to Take An Effective Mental Health Day
Balance is the Key.
Sometimes when we are working so hard with either study, work and family responsibilities, it can be exhausting and stressful. Keeping up a very busy schedule can eventually lead to our immune systems becoming compromised and as a result we can be more susceptible to get colds, experiencing worry which can lead to anxiety and or depressive symptoms.
Taking time out when you have a day off from your regular routine can make all the difference. This could include taking a walk if you don’t normally exercise, calling someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, listening to different music, playing a game with family members, baking a cake or just reading a good book that you haven’t had time for.
It’s about changing your routine for that day and thinking about something more positive and enjoyable that perhaps you have experienced or would like to experience in the future. It could be researching where you would like to travel to next when you are able to take a holiday, arranging a weekend activity you haven’t done before but have always wanted to, trying to cook a new dish, or perhaps having an early afternoon siesta for 30 minutes to re-energise.
Taking a break and giving some balance to your life is really important and if you struggle to find the time to take an entire day, even 30 minutes is better than nothing at all.
